Stewardship

At PIDC, each employee has a responsibility to make health, safety, and environmental protection an integral part of all daily work.

For this reason, we have implemented throughout our operations Product Stewardship based on the American Chemistry Council’s Responsible Care® initiative. PIDC’s Product Stewardship guidelines cover all stages of a product’s life cycle and are closely monitored to ensure continuous improvement.

PIDC’s Product Stewardship standard:

  • Ensures that adequate EH&S information is available to assess the safety of each product for its intended uses.
  • Establishes product stewardship programs and business risk review requirements based on risk-based prioritization tier.
  • Ensures product stewardship is engaged in product/process design and improvement processes and assessments of external manufacturing.
  • Ensures that product stewardship expectations are established for suppliers and distributors.
  • Ensures that customers are provided appropriate product stewardship information and assessment and product stewardship programs aligned with risk-based prioritization tier is implemented.

Product stewardship is a team effort, requiring the knowledge and expertise of a variety of disciplines. Within PIDC, many people work together to protect human health and the environment through the appropriate use of PIDC’s products. Adhering to the Product Safety Code requires developing, maintaining and leveraging resources to ensure implementation of a global product stewardship plan for the business.

The Responsible Care Mgt. team is aided in accomplishing these responsibilities by designees, who implement all the relevant aspects of the global product stewardship plan and assure regulatory compliance.

In addition, PIDC engages our lab staff, many with doctoral degrees, with expertise in the fields of environmental science & industrial hygiene. Our staff directs PIDC’s businesses on relevant environment, health, and safety aspects with regard to PIDC’s products.

To stay abreast of product safety regulatory requirements around the globe, PIDC contracts 3rd party regulatory experts who interpret and implement applicable regulatory requirements to PIDC’s products.

Product Safety

Our approach to product safety is supported by our commitment to the PIDC EHS Management System.  Knowing that an integral part of managing our products involves product risk characterization and management, we conduct systematic and rigorous evaluations of our chemical products to ensure that they deliver their intended benefits while protecting public health and the environment and complying with applicable regulatory requirements.

PIDC gathers available information on the chemical structure of the product, its physio-chemical properties, ecological fate and effects, and toxicological properties. PIDC derives this information from a material’s Certificate of Analysis (COA) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

This process helps us identify and analyze the various applications for our products in order to understand the highest potential exposures associated with their use during production, transport, application and eventual disposal. We analyze information related to raw materials, product development, distribution and end uses of our products and all by-products associated with our new products. A similar analysis is conducted on a risk-based basis for all existing products.

Based upon the risk characterization, the following are the associated hazards of the material types, produced by PIDC.

PIDC communicates the product risk characterization findings and any associated risk management information to our stakeholders, utilizing the GHS 3-tiered rating system that uses the Signal Word (No Signal Word - Warning - Danger) to determine the level of hazard.

SDSs are available upon request.
